SUMMER 2017 READING LIST

HEY EVERYONE! JULI HERE, WELCOME BACK TO ANOTHER---

Just kidding, just kidding! I am not that gaming Youtuber my brother likes to watch, but yeah, welcome to... uhhh... this!

So one thing I really, really like to do is read, and trust me, I like to read a lot. Since it's summer now and I've got so much free time on my hands, I decided to compile my reading list.

You know what I don't like about summer? The library is closed! Shelves and shelves of books, untouched for three whole months! Agh, the horror, the apocalypse! O, Mephistopheles, how can I survive?

Luuuuuuuckily, with the help of National Book Store, Booksale, and a few ebook downloading websites, I ensured my survival from the heat wave and locked library.

     Without further ado, b e h o l d

(OTHERWISE KNOWN AS JULI'S SUMMER 2017 READING LIST)

1. JULES VERNE - "JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH"
(where my josh at ahuhuhu)
SUMMARY
The story involves German professor Otto Lidenbrock who believes there are volcanic tubes going toward the centre of the Earth. He, his nephew Axel, and their guide Hans descend into the Icelandic volcano Snæfellsjökull, encountering many adventures, including prehistoric animals and natural hazards, before eventually coming to the surface again in southern Italy, at the Stromboli volcano.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
I have already gone through the first few chapters of this book, but I will say this for the sake of a "first impressions": the firsthing that went in my head after seeing the title for the firstime was "WHERE IS JOSH HUTCHERSON MY CUTIE????"

2. JANE AUSTEN - "NORTHANGER ABBEY"

SUMMARY
Summary: the teenaged Catherine is invited to Bath to accompany some family friends. There she finds herself the object of Henry Tilney's and John Thorpe's affections. When she is asked to stay at Northanger Abbey, Catherine's youthful and naive imagination takes hold and she begins to confuse real life with the Gothic romance of her favorite novels.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
A girl comparing her life and experiences to stories she has read in books? HAHAHAHAHA sounds like me!

3. STIEG LARSSON - "THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO"

SUMMARY
Summary: A journalist's investigation to find out what happened to a woman from a wealthy family who disappeared 40 years prior.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
It sounds like it's going to end in disappointment, like, the DUN DUN DUN sound played in my head after I read the summary. However the book may go, I think it will be explosive. I'm almostempted to read through the pages of this book, if I may be honest! Alas, I have to finish Journey To The Center Of The Earth and Northanger Abbey before I read this one.

4. GEORGE ORWELL - "1984"

SUMMARY
The novel is set in Airstrip One (formerly known as Great Britain), a province of the superstate Oceania in a world of perpetual war, omnipresent government surveillance, and public manipulation. The superstate and its residents are dictated to by a political regime euphemistically named English Socialism, shortened to "Ingsoc" in Newspeak, the government's invented language. The superstate is under the control of the privileged elite of the Inner Party, a party and government that persecutes individualism and independent thinking as "thoughtcrime", which is enforced by the "Thought Police"

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
I don't know about everyone else, buthis gives me a The Hunger Games vibe. Also, I've seen a poster of this book and it had the words "BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU". Hmmmmm, is this where that reality show was inspired from?

Well, judging from the summary, now I'm kinda scared, and athe same time, shookt. It has been a while since I've read a book with a dystopian plot.

5. JANE AUSTEN - "PRIDE AND PREJUDICE"

SUMMARY
Mr Bennet of the Longbourn estate has five daughters, but his property is entailed, meaning that none of the girls can inherit it. Since his wife had no fortune, it is imperative that one of the girls marries well in order to support the others on his death.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
I have already gone through fifty pages of this book before I had to return ito the library to focus on the exams. For the sake of "first impressions" though, I will say this: the summary gave me a sugar daddeh vibe.

I mean, "one of the girls marries well in order to support the others on his death" sounds a looooot like "marry the sugar daddy and get some cash, hunny!"

Just kidding, just kidding. May I say one more thing? It gets better.

6. H.G. WELLS - "THE WAR OF THE WORLDS"

(it's that thing from The Incredibles!)
SUMMARY
The novel is the first-person narrative of both an unnamed protagonist in Surrey and of his younger brother in London as southern England is invaded by Martians.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
*whispers* THE 5TH WAVE THE 5TH WAVE THE 5TH WAVE!!!!!!!

Also, the aliens on the cover look a lot like Syndrome's machine from The Incredibles (2004).

~

Well, that's about it! Usually, I would add more books to (want to) read, but for now, I'm just going to stick to a realistic number that I can finish.

Anyway, these are really, really good books with great stories, if I am to trust the judgments of people who have read these books before. I have yet to say much about these books, and I will not say anything abouthe plot of a book until I have finished reading it. Rest assured, I will post a book review once I finish any of them. In fact, I actually already have a lot of ideas about Pride and Prejudice, but I'm keeping really tight-lipped as of the moment.

So, six books, all with different, very unique stories. *claps* I'm excited!

If there are any book recommendations, please let me know in the comments, and I'll look into it. I will appreciate it very much heh heh heh. For now, though, six books will do, and more will be added once I'm through with those (if I'm through with those before summer ends. I have plans for a First Semester reading list!)

Now, I must close off, or else my bookworm would keep babbling and will probably never shut up. Hahahaha! Not gonna lie, books are amazing.
